The Olympic Park line was built to service the facilities for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. The line extends over the location of the old Abattoirs branch. All traces of this were removed with the Olympic line connecting to the network at the one-time site of Pippita Station. The line is double-track, forming a partly-underground balloon loop.
The station had its big test during the Olympic Games where it handled the passenger loads without any significant problems.
