The Whitburn Colliery line left the Main North line just beyond the western end of Greta station. It primarily served the Whitburn and EBBW Main Collieries, although it was used by other nearby collieries at various times.
The branch featured a 26m trestle bridge over Anvil Creek which became so unsafe in the later years, that crews resorted to sending their train across unmanned!
Rail traffic ceased with the closure of Leconfield Colliery on 3/10/1957.
